Blogmas day #1: What Does Christmas Mean to You?

Blogmas day #1: What Does Christmas Mean to You?

It’s time!!! The Holiday Season is finally here and The Serial Reader is ready to BLOGMAS! For those of you who don’t know what BLOGMAS is, it’s when bloggers post at least once a day something uniquely dedicated to Christmas; it could be a list of the best Christmas songs, movies or books, or even funny DIY projects, decoration ideas, and recipes to bake Santa‘s favorite cookies. There is really NO limit to creativity here!

BLOGMAS begins today, December 1st and goes for 25 – 31 days. #BLOGMAS

BLOGMAS is funny and -hopefully- entertaining.. but also a real challenge for us bloggers and content creators. This year, I am willing to step up and give this exciting carousel a good try.

If you are reading this, THANK YOU! You are welcome to leave a comment and share whatever you like down in the comments section here on The Serial Reader Blog. I know this is probably the busiest month of the year and I truly appreciate the time you’re taking to read my posts and reviews.

The Serial Reader Blog was born to share my passion for reading … to meet other avid readers and to talk about books and authors we love the most, and I would love for you to be part of this reading tribe! You can subscribe to our newsletter and join our reading group on Goodreads or Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest… yes, I know… we’re all over!

So, without further ado… Let’s start from here:

What Christmas Means to Me

I have such fond memories of Christmases past; the big tree in the hall, the lights and decorations all around the house, the smell of cookies, my grandma making the most beautiful nativity scene I’ve ever seen, and me and my aunts reading Christmas stories.

It’s thanks to these amazing women -my aunts- that I love reading so much. Reading is not just a habit, a very good one if you allow me to say so, it’s FUN-damental!

I don’t simply “love” reading. I need it, like oxygen. Books come with me wherever I go. And I go everywhere with them; I’ve been to the cold Yukon with Jack London and White Fang. I’ve been riding on route 66 with Jack Kerouac, nothing behind me, everything ahead of me (On The Road). I’ve been at the court of the tzar with Tolstoy in War and Peace. And, believe it or not, I’ve also been Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea with Jules Verne and up on Mars with Andy Weir and The Martian.

Pretty cool, huh? Well, the most amazing thing is that you can do that too! Go to the library or to your favorite bookstore and allow yourself to get lost between the shelves… touch the covers, turn the pages of every book that grabs your attention and let the magic happen… books will take good care of you, I promise!

Reading is an adventure that never ends! Reading is dreaming with eyes wide open.. and yes, reading is sexy too! Remember those guys from Hot Dudes Reading (@hotdudesreading, 975.5k followers on Instagram), a group of friends/young professionals who capture the most beautiful bibliophiles in all of New York City, and take a few detours to interview some of the most popular hot dudes from the early days of the Instagram account.

-> find the Hot Dudes Reading, the book, and the new 2018 calendar -> HERE … just saying!

Back to Christmas! My Christmas List as a  child consisted (still does, to be honest) of many, many, many books. Going to the bookstore offered an exciting adventure every single time. There is a very special book I remember, that I re-read every Christmas, the same story my aunts used to read me when I was two, and it’s one of the most beautiful classics ever: by Mary Louise Alcott, Little Women.

If you have kids, give them the gift of reading. Buy them books, read aloud with them. I can guarantee you they will be forever grateful. Like I am to my aunts and parents because they allowed me to travel the world along with great companions.

During BLOGMAS I’m going to give you a list of the most magical stories and books for kids and adults. Stay tuned for that!

It’s your turn now:

What does Christmas mean to YOU?

Leave a comment and share your thoughts with us. I’ll see you tomorrow!

  1. What a huge task you have undertaken with Blogmas! Christmas can be a very blessed and a very stressed time. Fortunately for me, the blessed outnumbers the stressed by far. I like to copy Santa’s list. #1. Make a list, #2 Check it twice ( once for overall spending and second for individual spending) #3 Naughty & Nice. ( an attempt to limit the number of gifts, which reduces shopping and spending and STRESS).. HO, HO, HO
